It is nice to see the glacier in spring all covered with a thick blanket of winter snow. It helps me to ignore for just a moment how fast this glacier is thinning and shrinking. The first time I went to Gulkana Glacier in 2008 I remember Rocket telling me that the glacier hadn't changed much in his 30 year tenure with USGS. I wish I could say that about the last 10 years as well, but it kind of feels like a new glacier every time I see it now. Even the big snow years the past couple of winters don't offset the longer hotter summers.
