The mystery of the sliding stones explained...

The mystery of the sliding stones explained...

It is only funny because they just recently figured out exactly how the rocks do move. It turns out toddlers enamored with rocks have nothing to do with it. If you cover the playa in a couple of inches of water, and then it freezes, as it starts to melt floes of ice can catch the wind. The friction on the fine mud is minimal, and it turns out winds around 10-15 mph can move several hundred pound rocks. These rocks last slid just over a year ago.
