We flew in and out of Quito and spent a couple of days there at each end of the trip. Quito is a weird city, with sections of narrow 16th century streets adjacent to massive concrete apartment blocks. The city is huge and dirty, and has a bad reputation for pickpockets and petty crime. At the same time it has a lot of really cool buildings, friendly people, and great street food.
