We spent 12 days on the Marsh Fork of the Canning River in July. We had a huge group with 3 families and 10 people. It was lots of fun. We almost turned back before we even drove up - there were wildfires along the haul road and it was temporarily closed at one point. Worse, thick smoke and severe thunderstorms were limiting the flying that Dirk was able to do, putting him a bit behind schedule. By the time we made it to Coldfoot on the evening of the 3rd we were all a bit uncertain how it would work out.
On the 4th Dirk was able to fly two groups in, including Billy, Yvonne, Isabelle, Bryn, Aven, myself, and most of the gear including both big rafts. The plan was to fly the Kelseys in the next morning. Unfortunately we had a severe thunderstorm that evening and the river came up two feet overnight. The gravel bar we had landed on was now under water. We waited two days for the water to come down before we were finally reunited.
Overall I have to give it a one star review. There were too many flowers, too many birds, too many views, too much nice walking, and too many laughing girls. Seems like a waste to cram it all into one trip. But we did our best.
